Welcome
Welcome to the TRIO Upward Bound Program, where we are dedicated to helping first-generation and low-income high school students achieve their dreams of attending and succeeding in college. Through academic support, personal development, and college preparation, we empower students to realize their full potential.
Services
Certified teachers from local high schools provide instruction in Reading, English, Writing, Study Skills, Mathematics, Science, and Spanish. An Individualized Educational Development Work Plan is developed for each student as a guideline. Textbooks and other materials are provided by Upward Bound.
The Upward Bound staff assists students with academic advice, high school course advisement, and provides post-secondary education information. The staff will help with career guidance and the needed life skills to be successful. Financial aid information concerning grants, scholarships, and loans is made available to students and parents.
The tutorial program for Upward Bound concentrates on academic subjects such as English/Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Spanish. Students are instructed by teachers and staff to build skills necessary for educational success.
Students visit college campuses to familiarize themselves with the college environment, learn about admission requirements, and explore potential majors and careers. Academic advisors help students navigate the college application process, including writing personal statements, completing FAFSA forms, and securing scholarships. The program also offers preparation courses for college entrance exams like the ACT or SAT, which can improve students’ test scores and increase their chances of college acceptance.
Students participate in workshops focused on resume building, interviewing skills, and career exploration to better understand their professional goals and how to achieve them.
Students are paired with mentors from Tarleton State University who provide guidance, encouragement, and advice on academic and personal matters. These mentors help students set goals and stay motivated.
